The Calgary Flames selected forward Samuel Honzek with the 16th overall selection in Wednesday’s NHL Draft.
This is the first draft for the Flames’ newly appointed general Manager Crag Conroy.
Prior to the NHL Draft, Conroy sent forward Tyler Toffoli to the New Jersey Devils in the first move of what could be a very busy off-season for the rookie GM.
Conroy takes over a Flames team that had a very disappointing end to the 2022-23 campaign, narrowly missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The post-season miss saw Calgary make a number of organizational changes this off-season, including the departure of GM Brad Treliving and firing of head coach Darryl Sutter.
Conroy was appointed the new GM, then assistant coach Ryan Huska was named the team’s new head coach soon after.
More to come.
