The final PGA Tour elevated event before the FedEx Cup playoffs begins on Thursday with the 2023 Travelers Championship. It takes place in Cromwell, Conn., at TPC River Highlands, which is one of the shortest courses on tour at 6,852 yards. With that, low scores should be abundant at the Travelers Championship 2023 which has seen an average winning score of 17-under par over the last five years. As a designated event, the purse comes in at $20 million, more than doubling last year’s prize pool of $8.3 million.
After a third-place finish at the U.S. Open, Scottie Scheffler is the 6-1 favorite in the latest 2023 Travelers Championship odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Patrick Cantlay follows at 9-1, with Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy both at 10-1. U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark is a 40-1 longshot to win in back-to-back weeks. Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm’s second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.
In addition, the model included Nick Taylor in its best bets to win the 2023 RBC Canadian Open. That bet hit at +7000, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,900. McClure’s best bets also included Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, even though he hadn’t won a PGA Tour event since 2018.

Top 2023 Travelers Championship predictions
One major surprise the model is calling for at the Travelers Championship 2023: Cantlay, an eight-time PGA Tour champion and one of the favorites, stumbles this week and doesn’t even crack the top five. He has yet to record a win this season, despite making the cut in 14 of 15 tournaments that he has played in.
Cantlay has only posted one top-10 finish in his last four events, and he has not been in the top five since April. He ranks outside the top 30 on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: approach the green (0.483) and scrambling (63.35%), which has made it difficult for him to keep pace with some of the top golfers in the world. Cantlay is being priced as an elite golfer, making him an overvalued option to stay away from this week.
Another surprise: Viktor Hovland, a 20-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. Hovland has been on quite the run over the last month with a victory three weeks ago at the Memorial and a runner-up at the PGA Championship in May. He also has two other top 20 finishes over that span, including last week at the U.S. Open.
With that surge, Hovland is now one of three golfers to rank in the top five in both FedEx Cup standings and in World Rankings, joining Scheffler and Rahm. But those other two both have odds at 10-1 or shorter, so there’s definitely value in utilizing Hovland in Travelers Championship 2023 bets. Add in that the Norwegian has elite metrics across the board with top-20 rankings in the strokes gained categories: tee-to-green, off-the-tee and approach the green, and Hovland has a much better chance to win than his odds imply.
