2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship odds, picks, field: PGA predictions, bets from model that nailed 10 majors

Opened in 1988, TPC Southwind in Memphis has been a stop on the PGA Tour since 1989 and it became the host of the first round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs for the first time last season. The 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship will be the first postseason event of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season, and changes to the playoff format mean the field has been reduced from 125 to 70. Justin Thomas and Adam Scott were just a couple of the notables who missed the 2023 FedEx Cup Playoffs with the reduced field. However, the FedEx St. Jude Championship 2023 field will be stocked with major champions as well as players looking to cement a career-defining victory.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the 13-2 favorite in the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship odds. Rory McIlroy is the defending FedEx Cup champion and he’s listed at 8-1 in this week’s PGA Tour odds along with Jon Rahm, who currently sits atop the FedEx Cup standings. Before locking in your 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm’s second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, the model included Nick Taylor in its best bets to win the 2023 RBC Canadian Open. That bet hit at +7000, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,900. McClure’s best bets also included Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2023 FedEx St. Judge Championship field is set, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the FedEx St. Jude Championship 2023: McIlroy, the defending FedEx Cup Playoffs champion and one of the top favorites this week, stumbles and doesn’t even crack the top three. The model has identified him as a poor value in the outright winner market at 8-1.

The No. 2 golfer in the OWGR has been almost automatic when it comes to top-10s and being in contention in general. But he’s struggled to finish off big tournaments overall with only wins at the Scottish Open and CJ Cup this season despite his overall great form. He also missed the cut altogether at this event in 2022 before storming back to take the overall playoff crown.

Another surprise: Tyrrell Hatton, a 25-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The 31-year-old Englishman captured his lone PGA Tour win at the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational, but he’s a six-time DP World Tour winner who ranks 14th in the Official World Golf Ranking and 17th in the FedEx Cup standings.

Hatton has piled up seven top-10 finishes so far this season, including a runner-up showing at the Players Championship. He currently ranks fourth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: total (2.087) and he’s top 12 on tour in three of the four major strokes-gained categories (off-the-tee, approach and putting). Hatton has made the cut in 10 consecutive starts and is a clear candidate to make a deep run in the FedEx Cup playoffs. See who else to pick here.
