2023 3M Open picks, odds, field: Surprising PGA predictions, best bets from model that nailed 10 majors

The PGA Tour events that come just after majors normally have slightly weaker fields, and the 2023 3M Open is no different. None of the top 15 ranked players in the world are part of the 3M Open 2023 field, as No. 16 Tony Finau is the top golfer set to compete. Finau also happens to be the defending champion of this week’s event, which is among his four victories over his last 25 starts. He missed the cut at last week’s Open Championship, but is hoping to find more success stateside in Minneapolis at TPC Twin Cities.

Finau is the 12-1 favorite, followed by Cameron Young (14-1) in the latest 2023 3M Open odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Sungjae Im, who was runner-up to Finau a year ago, is at 16-1, while Sepp Straka is a 30-1 longshot after finishing second at Royal Liverpool. Play tees off on Thursday, and this is the penultimate tournament before the FedEx Cup playoffs. Before locking in your 2023 3M Open picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $9,700 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm’s second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, the model included Nick Taylor in its best bets to win the 2023 RBC Canadian Open. That bet hit at +7000, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,900. McClure’s best bets also included Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2023 3M Open field is set, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2023 3M Open predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 3M Open 2023: Im, a two-time PGA Tour winner and one of the top favorites at 16-1, stumbles and fails to crack the top 10. The 25-year-old South Korean was the 2018-19 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year and he’s currently ranked No. 27 in the OWGR.

However, he was ranked as high as 17th earlier this year and has missed the cut in four of his last eight worldwide starts. His best finish during that span was T-20 at the 2023 Open Championship last week and his current run of form doesn’t seem to justify his status as one of the top favorites.

Another surprise: Gary Woodland, a 35-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. Woodland sits 90th in the FedEx Cup standings, with only the top 70 qualifying for the playoffs, so he has extra motivation for a strong showing. Woodland has played TPC Twin Cities just once before (2021) but he was just one stroke back of the lead after three rounds, shot a 72 on Sunday, and finished in 12th place.

To be successful at TPC Twin Cities, you need to excel with both your first and second shots, and that’s where Woodland’s strengths lie. He ranks 11th in strokes gained: off-the-tee and 10th in strokes gained: approach to green. Cameron Champ rode those metrics to victory in 2021, and Woodland was there with him until the final round. There’s no margin for error with Woodland’s FedEx Cup pursuits this year, so being locked in for all four rounds makes him an intriguing option for your 2023 3M Open bets. See who else to pick here.
