Gymnastics superstar Simone Biles is poised to make her highly anticipated return to competition at the upcoming US Classic event.

This marks her first appearance since her Tokyo Olympics campaign was cut short due to mental health and safety concerns. The event, scheduled for August 4-5 near Chicago, will see Biles back in action after a nearly two-year hiatus.

USA Gymnastics announced the news, expressing their support for the four-time Olympic gold medalist. “Every athlete is at a different place in their season and career, and we will support each of them, wherever they are in their journey,” stated Stefanie Korepin, the chief programs officer of USA Gymnastics.

Biles will make her first appearance since the 2021 Olympics at the upcoming US Classic event near Chicago in August, as announced by USA Gymnastics.

Biles’ decision to step away from the Tokyo Olympics due to the “twisties” and prioritise her mental health sparked a global conversation on athlete well-being. Her return to the sport signifies her resilience and determination to overcome the challenges she faced. Fans and fellow athletes have eagerly awaited her comeback, recognising the impact she has had in raising awareness about mental health in sports.

Simone Biles, known for her extraordinary talent and dominance in gymnastics, electrified the 2016 Rio Olympics by capturing gold medals in the team, all-around, vault, and floor exercise, along with a balance beam bronze. Her return to competition promises to be a thrilling spectacle as she showcases her skills once again.

The US Classic, a renowned event in USA Gymnastics, serves as a prelude to the national championships, scheduled to take place in California later in August. Biles has utilised the US Classic as a springboard for her remarkable comebacks in the past, notably after her two-year break following the Rio Olympics. Her return in 2018 paved the way for a stunning run, securing two all-around world championships and three national titles.

While Biles’ plans for the 2024 Paris Olympics remain undisclosed, her participation in the US Classic, approximately a year before the Games, suggests the possibility of another remarkable comeback on the grandest stage of gymnastics.

In her own words, Biles shared insights into her struggles, stating, “I think it was just the stress factor. It kind of built up over time, and my body and my mind just said no. But even I didn’t know I was going through it until it just happened.”

Her openness about her experiences has inspired many athletes and people around the world to prioritize mental health and seek support when needed.
